The University of New Hampshire Archives was established on October 1, 1992. Grant funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) made the formation of the UNH Archives possible.

The UNH Archives is part of the Special Collections Department in the University of New Hampshire's Dimond Library. The Archives staff is charged with appraising, collecting, organizing, describing, preserving, and providing access to University records of permanent administrative, legal, fiscal, and historical value. The Archives serves as a research center for the study of the University's history and provides information services to assist in the University's administration and operation. In addition, in order to facilitate the efficient management of the records produced by the University's units and offices, the Archives is responsible for implementing and maintaining the records management program for the University.
