Wildcat Logos

Once the wildcat was chosen as the mascot for UNH, its likeness began to appear on athletic uniforms, posters and publications. The face of a snarling wildcat appeared first on the warm-up jacket of the 1929 baseball team. In 1939, the varsity hockey team added the cat logo to their team jersey.

This illustration of the wildcat first graced the cover of the 1935 winter carnival issue of Athletic News, the official program of UNH athletic events. No credit is given to the artist, but the image was used by the athletic department for almost sixty years.

In 1993, as part of the celebration of the University's centennial year in Durham, graphic artist Virginia Peck was commissioned to redesign the logo. The result was a more life-like wildcat face.

In 2000, SME Power Branding of New York City worked with a campus logo committee to develop a new set of logos, creating a more contemporary and stylized look for the wildcat.
