Biography/History:
The University Folk Club at the University of New Hampshire started as the Women's League in 1912. At the time the school was called New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts and an increasing number of female students were attending. Because the college had few activities for female students, the female faculty members organized the Women's League. As stated in the constitution, the purpose of the organization was to "promote better fellowship among the women connected with New Hampshire College". By 1919 the number of female students was such that they split and formed their own group. The remaining women became the College Folk Club and was open to any adult woman connected with the college. When the school became the University of New Hampshire in 1923, the club changed their name to the University Folk Club. The Club organizes social and cultural events and raises money for needy female students.
Scope and Content:
This series contains the records of the University Folk Club from 1912 to the present. Included are the constitution and by-laws, minutes, treasurer's reports and scrapbooks.
