Biography/History:
The New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts was founded in 1866 in Hanover, NH. The College moved to Durham, NH in 1893 and became the University of New Hampshire in 1923. In the spring of 1912, all but the senior class went on strike. The students were protesting the expulsion of William H.L. Brackett, the president of the sophomore class. As part of a contest between the freshmen and sophomore classes, Brackett rang a false fire alarm and was caught by President William David Gibbs. The strike ended with Brackett on probation.

Scope and Content:
This scrapbook contains newspaper clippings concerning the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts. The topics include sports, curriculum, general interest and the student strike of 1912. Also included are correspondence about the strike and a transcription of the pre-strike meeting between President William David Gibbs and representatives of the sophomore class.
