History:
Zoology professor, C. Floyd Jackson was appointed the first university health officer in 1920, but until 1932 students were expected to look out for their own health needs. In 1931, Charles H. Hood, Class of 1880, presented the university with $125,000 to be used for the construction of a rest-house infirmary with accomodations for thrity patients. Hood House was dedicated on June 12, 1932 and provided students with basic medical care for 57 years. In 1989, a new Health Service Center was built offering expanded services.
