Mandoline Club

Girls' Mandolin Club, 1919

In 1911 two women joined the all male college Glee Club. Two years later, the women students formed their own chorus. They gave an annual concert in the middle of the year and performed operettas or Shakesperian plays at Commencement. They were also invited to give concerts in surrounding towns and cities.

The Girls' Mandolin Club was formed in the fall of 1918. Several of the members played other instruments, such as the ukelele, guitar and banjo. The primary goal of this group was to have fun.
